There’s so much more to Beaches than great hostels and facilities…

• Beaches Hervey Bay was one of the first backpacking hostels of its kind in Queensland
• The hostel was named after the 1988 Academy Award nominated film Beaches starring Bette Midler
•  In 1993, a backpacker staying at Beaches Hervey Bay went into labour. The baby was in a hurry and the backpacker gave birth in the camp shed. Our first Beaches baby!
• Beaches pioneered the Fraser Island self drive safari – the backpackers spoke and we listened!
• The bar in Beaches Hervey Bay used to be Sally and John Bush’s home and the pool was for their personal use. They let backpackers move in and Beaches grew from there!
