If you’re in town between late July and November, do not miss seeing the majestic humpback whales playing in the calm, clear, protected waters between Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. Hervey Bay is the only place along the coast where the whales stop and rest. Get up close and personal on a full or half day tour, with most local tour operators offering a buffet lunch or breakfast.
Get the blood pumping with a tandem skydive. The local operators have some of the cheapest skydives on offer – and you just can’t beat the views of Hervey Bay’s beaches and the free scenic flight over Fraser Island!
Get your heart pumping by surfing the wind and the water along Hervey Bay’s beachfront. Hervey Bay is one of the best locations for kite surfing in Queensland
Check out the thousands of bats at the bat sanctuary in Pialba. On dusk, they can be heard and seen swarming through the sky!
Hervey Bay has a 20km running/walking and bike path stretching along the Esplanade on the waters edge. Soak up the scenery as you stroll along, take advantage of the free workout equipment spotted along the Esplanade, and be sure to head up to Urangan to walk out along the 800m pier.
